substitute X=-1/2 in above equation as it is root of equation it results total answer as zero

8(-1/2)*3- a(-1/2)*2-(-1/2)+2=0

8(-1/8)-a/4+1/2+2

-1-a/4+3/2=0

1/2-a/4=0

a/4=1/2

a=2

LuckyYadav2578: 1/2 + 2 = 5/2

it is given that

x= -1/2 is a zero of the polynomial

putting x= -1/2 in the equation 8x^3 - ax^2 -x +2

8 (-1/2)^3 - a (-1/2)^2 -(-1/2) + 2 = 0

-8/8 - a/4 + 1/2 + 2 = 0

-1 - a/4 + 1/2 + 2 = 0

-a/4 = -1/2 -1

a/4 = 3/2

a = 12/2

a=6

  • while solving these type of questions put the value of its zero in the equation and than solve it. You will get the desired result.
