Step-by-step explanation:

(a) In ∆APB and ∆CQD,  

we have ∠ABP = ∠CDQ [Alternate angles]  

AB = CD [Opposite sides of a parallelogram]  

∠APB = ∠CQD [Each = 90°]  

∴ ∆APB ≅ ∆CQD [ASA congruence]  

(b) By using the above result, we obtain

AP = CQ [CPCT]
