1) We put sodium in kerosene because sodium will react vigorously with air and water so that we store sodium in kerosene because sodium will not react with kerosene.

2) Different metals react with differently with water because of the electronegativity difference. Water will react with metals that give away electron easily than Hydrogen.

3) Metals will produce their respective oxides when react with water replacing Hydrogen. This oxides can be di-oxide, tri-oxide or mono-oxide.

4) Carbon powder will react with the impurities of the water and clean them.
