Step-by-step explanation:

Let,

the speed of the boat be x km/hr.

the speed of the current of the stream be y km/hr.

Time taken by the boat to go 10 km along with the stream = 20 min

= 20/60 hr = 1/3 hr

Time taken by the boat to go 10 km against the stream = 30 min

= 30/60 hr = 1/2 hr

Now, the equations formed are.....

x+y= 10/1/3

x+y= 10 X 3

x+y=30................... (i)

x-y =10/1/2

x-y=10 X 2

x-y= 20....................(ii)

Now, adding both the equations,

x+y = 30

x-y=20

____+________________

2x = 50

_____________________

Thus, we get. 2x=50

So, _________

/ x =25 /

Now, substituting the value of x in eq. (i)

x+y=30

25+y=30

y= 30-25

y = 5

Hence,

The speed of the current of the stream =y

= 5km/hr

Hope it's helpful to you!!!
