2. There are 8 people travelling in a lift.their weights are

Jack, Jill, Jerry,Jim,Joy,Jolly,John

75kg, 53kg ,70kg ,64kg, 72kg, 59kg ,71kg ,58kg

Find the mean . If the limit is 600 kg, are these people within the capacity of the lift?

• (i) Find the value of x.

• (ii) What is the age of the oldest teacher and that of the youngest teacher?

Answer 1

1- The total weight of all the peoples in the lift is 522kg i.e., less than 600, therefore these peoples are within the capacity of the lift.

2 (i)- The value of x is 33 as the mean of (317+x) is 35, so after solving the equation we get the value of x.
(ii)- the oldest teacher is of the age 54 while the youngest is of 23.
