Q.31 (a) Root, in botany, that part of a vascular plant normally underground. Its primary functions are anchorage of the plant, absorption of water and dissolved minerals and conduction of these to the stem, and storage of reserve foods.

(b) The primary functions of the stem are to support the leaves; to conduct water and minerals to the leaves, where they can be converted into usable products by photosynthesis; and to transport these products from the leaves to other parts of the plant, including the roots.

(c) The main function of a leaf is to produce food for the plant by photosynthesis. Chlorophyll, the substance that gives plants their characteristic green colour, absorbs light energy. The internal structure of the leaf is protected by the leaf epidermis, which is continuous with the stem epidermis.

(d) The primary purpose of a flower is reproduction. Since the flowers are the reproductive organs of plant, they mediate the joining of the sperm, contained within pollen, to the ovules — contained in the ovary. Pollination is the movement of pollen from the anthers to the stigma.

Q.33 (a)Objects that can emit light energy by themselves are known as luminous objects. ... These objects do not cause the sensation of light. The luminous objects are visible as they emit light on their own. The non-luminous objects are visible because of luminous objects. The sun and candle are the two examples.

(b) Objects that cannot emit light energy by themselves are known as non-luminous objects. ... These objects do not cause the sensation of light. The luminous objects are visible as they emit light on their own. The non-luminous objects are visible because of luminous objects. The sun and candle are the two examples.

(c) Materials like air, water, and clear glass are called transparent. When light encounters transparent materials, almost all of it passes directly through them. Glass, for example, is transparent to all visible light. Translucent objects allow some light to travel through them.

(d) Opaque objects block light from traveling through them. Most of the light is either reflected by the object or absorbed and converted to thermal energy. Materials such as wood, stone, and metals are opaque to visible light.

Q.34 Droughts happen when there is not enough rain for a long period of time. It's not like a dry spell - there is so little precipitation (rain, snow, sleet or any kind of moisture) that a whole region starts to dry out. Sometimes a drought takes decades to develop fully and they are very difficult to predict.

Q.35 Please try it yourself.

May this be helpful dear
