Let, B's one day work be a

A's one day work = 3a

( A + B)'s one day work = a + 3a = 4a

Number of days Required for A + B to finish the work = 1 /4a

According to question,

1/ 4a = 12

=> 48a = 1

=> a = 1/48

B's one day work = 1/48

A's one day work = 3/48 = 1/16

A can finish the work in 16 days.
