♦ Given

→ Increase in edge = 50%

→ Shape = Cube

♦ Before we start solving it we must know :-

• What is a Cube ?

→ Cube is a 3D shape with total six faces , Each face is in the shape of a square .

• What is Surface area ?

→ The area of Walls of a shape i.e external area of the given shape consisting all the parts .

• Surface area of Cube ?

→ As in a cube there are six squares

And are of a Square = side² or edge²

Hence Surface Area of Cube = 6( side²/edge²)

♦ Now According to the Questions

Let the length of edge be equal to "x" units

Then Surface Area = 6x²

Now by increasing edge by 50% i.e. 1.5x

Then Surface Area = 6 (1.5x)²

= 6(2.25x²)

= 13.5x²

♦Now % change in Surface Area (Increase in surface area)

 = \bold{\frac{Surface\: Area\: Now - Surface\: Area\: before}{Surface\: Area\: before} \times 100 }

 = \bold{\dfrac{13.5x^2 - 6x^2}{6x^2} \times 100 }

 = \bold{\dfrac{7.5x^2}{6x^2} \times 100}

 = \bold{1.25 \times 100 }

 = \bold{125 \%}

♦ So there is 125% increase in Surface Area.
