see a and b are prime factors so there won't be any smaller LCM then there product...hence the LCM of prime numbers a and b is ab.
example...both 13 and 17 are prime numbers and their LCM is 13*17 = 221

If a and b are prime numbers then they don't have any common factor....

a= 1×a
b= 1×b

Their LCM= 1×a×b
Therefore,
LCM if a and b= ab
