Answer:

Let breadth be x metres,

Then,

length= (x + 5) metres (Given)

If,

Breadth were doubled i.e. 2x and,

length reduced by 9 metres i.e (x+5)-9 m + x-4

RTF: Length and Breadth;

Step-by-step explanation:

Area of first rectangle = x*(x+5)=x^2 +5x

Area of second rectangle = 2x*(x-4)=2x^2-8x

Therefore,

2x^2-8x=x^2+5x+140  (If you increase the orignal

values their sum will be greater than the orignal area by 140)

x^2 -13x-140=0

x^2 -20x+7x-140=0

x(x-20)+7(x-20)=0 therefore

length = 25;

breadth = 20;
