This is because as the soil gets deeper it gets hard ,, because at deep we reach the bedrock which isn't eroded weathered has been exposed so the ground us very hard to dig.

It is so because

The upper part of soil contains loose soil

and as we dug deeper the stones and roots of nearby plants make it difficult to dig....
