If you are having trouble visualizing . Assume only one rod moving so point will slide through second rod with velocity u .

Since both rods are moving so velocity will be resultant of two velocity vectors of magnituder u at 106° .

resultant =  \sqrt{ {u}^{2}  +  {u}^{2} + 2(u)(u) \cos(106)  }  \\  = 2u \sqrt{1 +   \cos(106)  }  \\  = 2u \sqrt{2 \cos {}^{2} (53) }  \\  = 2 \times 1.41 \times 0.60 \times u \\  = 1.69u

53 , 37 and 90 is 3-4-5 side right angle triangle
