This states that the gases have a capability to move. But it can be observed in hot gases more than the cold gases.

The gases present above food items gets heatup and hence their kinetic energy increases due to which they starts their motion in random direction.

hope it helps.....

Answer:

The smell of hot sizzling food reaches us from several metres but to smell cold food we need to go close to it because, the heat in the hot sizzling food increases the kinetic energy of the food particles so the food particles diffuse in the air quickly and can be smelled from several metres away. Whereas in cold food the kinetic energy is low so the rate of diffusion is low so we have to go close to the food to smell it.
