ABCD is a rectangle .
So,opposite sides are equal.
AB=CD
12=x+y
x+y=12 (1)
BC=AD
8=x-y
x-y=8 (2)
Subtracting (2) from (1),
(x+y)-(x-y)=12-8
x+y-x+y=4
2y=4
y=4/2
y=2
Substituting y in (1)
x+2=12
x=12-2
x=10
The values of x and y are 10 and 2 respectively
So,opposite sides are equal.
