Matrix is a set of numbers laid out in tabular form.It's is a collection of numbers arranged into a fixed number of rows and columns. Usually The Numbers 'Are Real Numbers'.It means,'a less formal meaning is derived of a complex of lines intersecting at right angles'.

Types Of Matrices:-Types of Matrix are:-

i)row matrix,

ii)column matrix,

iii)zero matrix,

iv)square matrix,

v)diagonal matrix,

vi)unit matrix 

vii)equal matrices

IN BIOLOGY

It may be defined as the ground substance that is found in animal or plant cells or in cell organelles like chloroplasts etc. It is present as a special fluid part which contain all the necessary enzymes and other material needed fro the functioning of cell or organelles. 

IN MATHS

It is a rectangular array of numbers, symbols or expressions arranged in the former of rows and columns. The individual items in a matrix are called it's elements or entries.
