Answer: it is given that the sum of the squares of the zeroes of the equation is 40..

so we will use ( a + b ) =  -b /a

and (a.b) = c/a

Step-by-step explanation:

x square - 8x + k = 0

(a +b) = 8

(a.b) = k

now , a^2 + b^2 = (a+b)^2 - 2 a.b

so,

( 8 ) ^2 - 2.k = 40

64 - 2.k = 40

24 = 2.k

K = 12....
