Answer :

›»› The tension is in the the string = F/3 N

Given :

  • Two blocks of masses 1 kg and 2 kg rest in smooth horizontal table.
  • The 2 kg block is pulled by a certain force F.

To Find :

  • The tension is in the the string = ?

Required Solution :

Here in this question we have to find tension T is in the the string. So, firstly we have to consider the Acceleration of each block as an variable, after that we need to find Acceleration of each, after all this we will find tension is in the the string on the basis of conditions given above.

Let ,

The Acceleration of each block be "a"

Here, given

→ m₁ = 1 kg

→ m₂ = 2 kg

➝ Total mass (m) = m₁ + m₂

➝ Total mass = 1 + 2

Total mass = 3 kg

Finding Acceleration :

From second law of Newton

⇒ F = ma

⇒ F = 3 × a

⇒ F = 3a

a = F/3 m/s²

Now ,

⇛ F - T = m₂a

⇛ F - T = 2 × F/3

⇛ F - T = 2F/3

⇛ T = F - 2F/3

T = F/3 N

Hence, the tension is in the the string is F/3.

Correct Option is (B) F/3 N.
