First we have to do the long division for the 520

• ∴ 22² < 520
• Next perfect square number 23² = 529

= 529 – 520 = 9

Question 4-

what smallest number should be subtracted from 95500 so that the resulting number becomes a perfect square .

Answer -

First we have to do the long division for the 95500

• Since remainder is 19
• ∴ 309 ² < 520
• 309² = 95481

Hence, number to be subtracted

= 95500 – 95481

= 19

Question 5 -

Find the greatest number of 4 digit which is a perfect square .

Answer -

Greatest 4 digit number = 9999

Finding square root of 9999 by long division method

Now ,

• Remainder = 198 , so it is clear that 9999 is not a perfect square

We will subtract remainder which is 198 from 9999

• 9999 - 198 = 9801

now we will check that 9801 is perfect square or not by long division method

[ In the attachment 4 ]

Now ,

• Remainder = 0 , so is clear that 9801 is a perfect square

∴ 9801 is the greatest number of 4 digit which is a perfect square .
