Answer:There are 2 heterozygous plants and the phenotypic ratio is 3:1 (Y:y)

Explanation: Heterozygous refers to plants having different genes. There are two plants out of four in the checker board that have a mixed gene.

Phenotypic refers to the physical appearance of the plant. Out of 4 types in the Checker board 3 has atleast one Y as their gene. Assuming that You refers to a dominant gene and y to a recessive gene; we can say that if a plant has atleast one Y then the plant will express the character of Y. By this reason, we can say 3 out of 4 type of plants show the character of Y in their physical appearance. So the phenotypic ratio is 3:1 .

Answer:

Yy × Yy

Progeny : YY, Yy, Yy, yy.

(a) How many heterozygous plants are there in the cheker board?

➜ There are 2 plants in a cheker board which are heterozygous.

Heterozygous plants are organisms which have two different alleles of a particular gene.

(b) Write the phenotypic ratio of monohybrid cross?

➜ Out of the 4 plants, 3 of them are dominant and 1 is recessive.

Hence, the phenotypic ratio of the monohybrid cross shown is 3:1.

Monohybrid cross is the cross experiment done by keeping a check of single character or trait of the organism.

Phenotype is is the characteristic which is visible in an organism.

SOME MORE RELATED TERM :

Genotype is the description of genes present in an organism.

Recessive gene is a gene which can not describe the apperance of an organism if there is presence of alternative contrasting gene.

Dominant gene is a gene which can decide the appearance of an organism in the presence of an alternative contrasting gene.

Homozygous is an organism having two identical alleles of a particular gene.
