When 4-hydroxyethyl phenol reacts with HBr then, it forms 4-bromoethyl phenol.

2)

When cyclohexanol reacts in the presence of red phosphorus with I2 it forms 1-iodo cyclohexane.

Additional information :-

  • Bromoalkanes and iodoalkane are prepared by the reaction of PBr3 and PI3, respectively with the alcohols.
  • PBr3 and PI3 are usually generated in situ by the reaction of red phosphorus with bromine and iodine respectively.
