The following conversation can give you idea for your discussion; you can either use the following discussion or derive enough ideas for your discussion:

Student A: In a country like India that is already facing energy crisis, practices such as wasting the country's energy resources, will further aggravate the crisis.

Student B:  Ours is a country where still a prodigious number of people live in direst impoverished conditions; still there are villages and hard terrains where electricity has to be provided.

Student A: I agree with you there is an ever-increasing demand for more electricity due to the expanding industrial, and tertiary sector infrastructure. During summer, when the demand for the power supply is at its peak, even the most developed and metropolitan cities fail to receive round the clock power supply.

Student B:  Frequent outages are a common phenomenon! The cities and industrial areas are a veritable sight of bedlam with the noisy diesel generators spewing black exhaust into the atmosphere. Our country is perhaps the most populated country in the world; everyone needs power.

Student A: We are a developing country and the government is building more power generating units. Until the task is accomplished, sagacious consumption of the limited supply of power is the most viable alternative.

Student B: Very well said. Power saved is power generated! Everyone must contribute to the save electricity drive. Especially the teachers and students should be in the vanguard of the drive.

Student A:  Yes, the teachers in every class should form teams of volunteer students to ensure switching off of fans and tube lights at the time of leaving the class. If all the schools, homes, industrial units, factories, offices, etc consume electricity carefully, much electricity can be saved and used positively.

Student B: The problem of shortage of power can be handled until better provisions are available. The students can be sensitized by giving them talks on save power.

Student A: 'Save Electricity' posters can be put up in every class to remind students to switch off the fans and lights when not in use. The principal can make special announcements at the morning assembly to save electricity.

Student B: Yes, this will be first mighty step towards energy conservation. Imagine the amount of energy we will be able to save if each student on his or her level starts switching off fans, lights, etc, that are not in use!

Student A: Let’s put the ideas into practice.

You can either use the following discussion or formulate your own taking ideas from it:

Student A: Hey, did Radhika discuss her science class problem with you as well?

Student B: Yes, she did! How strange she does not understand anything in her science class!

Student A: I agree with you. On the contrary we enjoy so much our science classes, don’t we?

Student B: Yes we do. What could be the reason for her problem?

Student A: I think, her basics of science are not very clear. This has made her believe she is not good at it. Hence the preconceived notions don’t let her understand the scientific concepts.

Student B: Exactly! I have never seen her ask any question from madam either. She remains so distant and uninvolved in the class discussions we often do. I think we should do something, shouldn’t we?

Student A: We must. She is our close friend. Helping her is our moral responsibility. The first thing we need to do is tell her how cooperative our science teacher is. She needs not be afraid of her.

Student B: The second thing we can do is talk to our science teacher. She is so caring and kind. We can request her to pay special attention to her. This will motivate Radhika to open up with Madam.

Student A: Wonderful! We must explain to her how important science is. If she has to do well in her career, she must do excellent in science. We will tell her with practice, she will grasp all the abstruse concepts of science.

Student B: We can also take the help of our other friends. They can also motivate her and assist her with her difficulties.

Student A: That’s wonderful! We can also suggest her to join any coaching classes for further clarity. May be she will have her all doubts cleared there.

Student B: We can also tell her that on internet she can find such interesting lessons on youtube. They will clear all her doubts as they explain everything with graphics and animation. If required we will give her a few demonstrations as well.

Student A: There are so many options available. Let’s go to her and have a word with her.
