(x/a) cost+(y/b) sint = 1

squaring on both sides

(x/a)^2 cost^2 +(y/a)^2 sint^2 +2(x-y/ab)sint cost

= 1. .......i

(x/a) sint -(y/b) cost = 1

s.o.b.s.

(x/a)^2 sint^2 +(y/a)^2 cost^2 -2(x-y/ab)sint cost

= 1. .......ii

since sint^2+cost^2 =1

adding i & ii

(x/a)^2 +(y/a)^2 = 2
