Let

Sₙ = \frac{1}{2} +\frac{1}{4}+ \frac{1}{8} +....+\frac{1}{2}

Sₙ =1/2+1/2²+1/2³+.....+1/2ⁿ

Sₙ =1/2[1+1/2+1/2²+......1/2⁽ⁿ⁻¹⁾

multiply both sides with 2

2Sₙ=1+[1/2+1/2²+1/2³......1/2⁽ⁿ⁻¹⁾  

=  1+[Sₙ-1/2ⁿ]

Now,   Sₙ=1-1/2ⁿ
