The speed of sound is directly proportional to the density of the medium in which it travels. So if the density increases then the speed of sound increases and if density decreases the speed of sound decreases.

sound travels faster in liquid than I gases and faster in solid then in liquid the greater the elasticity and the lower density,the faster sound travels in a medium in air for example,the speed of sound increase with increase in temperature.
