Let the total number of days he worked=x

Let the total number of days he remain absent=y

Now, According to question,

x+y=20 ---equation 1

280x-60y=2540 ---equation 2

Substitute y=20-x(from equation 1) in equation 2,

280x-60(20-x) =2540

280x-1200+60x=2540

340x=3740

x=3740/340

x=11

y=9

He worked 11 days and remain absent for 9 days.
