As per the question, at any time 't' ;

the height of the steel ball will be,

h = u.t - (1/2).g.t²

or, (h/t) =  u - (1/2).g.t

or, (h/t) = {(-1/2).g}.t + u

if we compare the above equation with y = mx + c

it can be seen that, when y = (h/t) and x = (t)

m = (-0.5 g) and c = u

So if the student plots (h/t) vs (t) graph, the slope of the curve will be equal to (-0.5 g) from which value of g can be easily deducted.
