I)Sodium hydroxide is produced (along with chlorine and hydrogen) via the chloralkali process. This involves the electrolysis of an aqueous solution of sodium chloride. The sodium hydroxide builds up at the cathode, where water is reduced to hydrogen gas and hydroxide ion 2Na+ + 2H2O + 2e− → H2 + 2NaOH.

ii)The acid used is hydrochloric acid and the base used is Ammonium hydroxide. Now, HCl is a strong acid and NH4OH is a weak base. Thus, NH4Cl is prepared from a strong acid and weak base! Therefore, the salt will be a little acidic in nature.

iii)Uses of bleaching powder: It is used for bleaching dirty clothes in the laundry, as a bleaching agent for cotton and linen in the textile industry. It is a strong oxidizing agent hence used as an oxidizer in many industries. It is used as a disinfectant which is used for disinfecting water to make potable water.

Plaster of Paris is a building material that is used as a protective coating on walls and ceilings. It is also used as a moulding and casting agent for decorative elements. It is used to give aesthetic finishing touches to the buildings.
