Answer: 1. limiting reagent= Chlorine

2. amount of HCl formed=

71 g Cl2 gives → 73 g HCl

1 g Cl2 → 73/71 g HCl

135 g Cl2 → 73/71× 135 = 138.80 i.e. 139 g HCl

3. amount of unused reactant =

71 g Cl2 reacts with → 2g H2

1 g Cl2 → 2/71 g H2

135 gCl2→ 2/71 × 135 = 3.8 i.e. 4 g H2

4. amount of reactant to be added=

2 g H2 reacts with = 71 g Cl2

1 g H2 reacts with = 71/2 g Cl2

6 g H2 reacts with = 71/2 * 6 = 213 g Cl2

therefore cl2 to be added to complete reaction is 213 - 135 = 78 g Cl2
