The wire was in the form of a rectangle

Perimeter of rectangle

We know that the perimeter of the rectangle = 2 ( l + b )

                                                                           = 2 ( 22 + 40 )

                                                                           = 2 × 62

                                                                           = 124

Perimeter of square

We know that perimeter of square = 4 a

Perimeter of square is = perimeter of rectangle

                                  ==> 4 a = 124

                                  ==> a = 124/4

                                  ==> a = 31

The side is 31 cm

Area of rectangle

Area = l × b

        = 40 cm × 22 cm

        = 880 cm²

Area of square

Area of square = a²

                          = (31 cm)²

                          =  961 cm²

Hence square encloses more area

Answer

  • The side of square is 31 cm
  • The square encloses more area

Hope it helps
