(i) Virgin Vegetation refers to a plant community which has grown naturally without human aid and has been left undisturbed by humans for a long time.

(ii) The flora of India is one of the richest of the world due to a wide range of climate, topology and environments in the country. Over 45,000 species of plants have been recorded.

(iii) There are estimated to be over 18,000 species of flowering plants in India, which constitute some 6-7 percent of the total plant species in the world.

(iv) India, a megadiverse country with only 2.4% of the world's land area, accounts for 7-8% of all recorded species, including over 91,000 species of animals.

(v) Flora refers to the plant life found in a particular region. It is naturally occurring or the indigenous native plant life.

(vi) Fauna represents the animal life indigenous to a region. It is naturally occurring or the indigenous native animal life.

(vii) There are six main soil types:

Clay.

Sandy.

Peaty.

Chalky.

(viii) Alpine plants are plants that grow in an alpine climate, which occurs at high elevation and above the tree line. Alpine vegetation is found above the limit of trees, in treeless areas and among subalpine forests. It is less than 2 metres tall.

(ix) In meteorology, precipitation is any product of the condensation of atmospheric water vapor that falls under gravitational pull from clouds. The main forms of precipitation include drizzling, rain, sleet, snow, ice pellets, graupel and hail. This process is typically active when freezing rain occurs.

(x) Flora is defined as all the naturally occurring native plants of a particular region. Fauna is all the animal life present in a particular place or at a particular time period. Flora and fauna are used to designate the plant and animal species of a geographical region.
