Satellites keeps an eye in the space and helps us to see the sky beyond our sight... they gives us many information and alerts ur about any disasters that can happen...this is the reason why they are called eye of the sky.

During a Total solar eclipse...the moon covers the sun completely i.e. it comes between the earth(usually some part during total solar eclipse) and the sun which obstructs the sun's rays to reach the earth...this leads to total darkness.
