4.

Given that: x² +6x+8

=x² +4x+2x+8, (split middle term)

=(x² +4x)+(2x+8), (group pair of terms)

=x(x+4)+2(x+4), (factor each binomials)

=(x+4)(x+2), (factor out common factor (x+4)

Hence factors of x² +6x+8 are (x+4)(x+2)

5.

Factor:4x2−4x−15

Factor by splitting the middle term.

Multiply the coefficient of the first term

(4) by the constant term

(−15) .

4×−15=−60

Find two factors of

−60 that add up to −4

. The numbers 6and −10 meet the requirement.

Split −4x as the sum of 6x and −10x .

4x2+6x−10x-15

Factor out the common term from the first two terms and the second two terms.

2x(2x+3)−5(2x+3)

Factor out the common term

(2x+3) .

(2x+3)(2x−5)

7.

4x²-20x-24

4x-12x-8x-24

4x(x-3) -8(x-3) =0

4x-8=0 x-3=0

4x=8 x=3

x=8÷4

x=3

x=2.

8.

9m²+12m-32

9m²=12m-32

9m²-12m+32=0

9m²-12m=32
