a) The water entered by seepage during the rain after flowing over the ground through the layer D. The layer D is exposed on one end of the slope and that is how water entered and collected.

b)During summer, the manual well on the left will go dry first, the water level reduces because of no recharge and water cannot reach the well because of the presence of the impervious hard granite layer, the tubewell will pump water from much deeper levels throughout the year as it has a much greater depth and runs on fuel.

c)If there is no crack in the rock, water will still accumulate in the well after passing through top soil and the weathered rock.

d)If there was no non-porous or impervious rock(hard granite) water would not accumulate as the water will seep into even lower layers and move deeper. The impervious rock prevents water from seeping deeper into the ground.
