Q. 3

One day, Helen was being told a story by her teacher Miss. Anne Sullivan. That story revived a memory of another story Helen had heard earlier. However, Helen had forgotten that she had heard this story earlier and so, she began to write the story herself. Helen read the story to her teacher who corrected the mistakes and then Helen read it out to her entire family. Her family was pleasantly surprised to see Helen write so well. The name of the story was changed from "Autumn Leaves" to "The Frost King".

Helen Keller wrote the story especially for Mr. Anagnos who was the director of the Perkins' Institution for The Blind. The story was well received by him and he published it in one of the Institute reports which delighted Helen. Helen did not know that this story was not actually her own.

Helen called this story a dark cloud in her life because one day, it was found that a similar story had been written called "The Frost Fairies" by Margaret T. Canby before Helen was even born. Everyone started believing Helen's story was a plagiarism.

Helen told Mr. Anagnos that she did not know about this and pleaded to him to believe her. Mr. Anagnos did believe her. However, one day Helen had to give a masque along with some other blind girls. On that day, something she said to a lady made the lady think Helen knew about "The Frost Fairies" and then Helen was taken to a room where there were a few people who would decide whether Helen was guilty of plagiarism or not. Helen was separated from her teacher. She got very scared and could answer only in monosyllables. Mr. Anagnos soon stopped behaving in the same way he did with Helen and his kind and loving attitude towards her changed.

Q. 4
Helen Keller visited the Niagara Falls and the World Fair in March, 1893. Helen hated it when people asked her how she could find pleasure in the Niagara Falls if she was unable to see or hear. Helen liked to feel the sound of the Niagara Falls and enjoyed her trip.

Helen went to the World Fair with Mr. Alexander Graham Bell and her teacher Miss Anne Sullivan. Helen loved the statues of Shiva, Ganesh, and other Indian gods at the fair. Moreover, She enjoyed the bazaars, too. She liked visiting the mosques and camels in the Cairo exhibit as well. Helen also liked to sail in the Venetian lagoons and even went to feel a model of a Viking ship. Moreover, she felt the model of the Santa Maria ship where Christopher Columbus's cabin was present. Mr. Higinbotham who was the president of the fair had allowed her to touch and feel the exhibit.

At the Cape of Good Hope exhibit, Helen felt the machinery used to mine diamonds while it was in motion in order to get a proper understanding of its working. She even found a diamond there among the washings which was apparently the only true diamond ever found in the United States of America.

Helen also went to the science exhibit. Here, Mr. Graham Bell told her about authophones, telephones, etc. Moreover, he also explained to her how messages could be sent and received over wire. Helen also went to the anthropological exhibit. Here, the stone implements and tools of Mexicans excited her. There were mummies in the exhibit as well but she was too afraid to touch them.
