18. Thermal decomposition : Reactions that occur when heat triggers the breakdown of a chemical compound. EXAMPLE : Baking soda ( sodium bicarbonate) is heated.

Electrolytic decomposition : Reactions occur when an electric current is passed through an aqueous solution of a compund. EXAMPLE : Water decomposes into hydrogen and oxygen in the presence of an electric current.

Photo decomposition : Reactions occur in the presence of light ( photons). EXAMPLE : Silver chloride decomposes into silver and chlorine in the presence of sunlight.
