(a) They do not harm viruses because they block their nucleic acid synthesis .

Explanation :

Antibiotics can kill bacterias because antibiotics are capable of attacking the cell walls of a bacteria and hence killing it then and there .But antibiotics are not able to kill viruses because viruses protect themselves witha protein coat which cannot be damaged by the antibiotics and another reason is that when viruses enter our body they mix and imbue themselves into our cells , making themselves multiply and reproduce whenever a human cell reproduces . Since killing our cells are harmful and due to a protective layer of protein coat around a virus , antibiotics aren't capable of killing a virus .
