gIn triangle ABC
sin 30=AB/AC
1/2=AB/AC
AC=2AB.-----(1)



Using Pythagoras theorem

AC^2=AB^2+BC^2
ac {}^{2}  = y {}^{2}  + x {}^{2}
ac =  \sqrt{x {}^{2}  + y {}^{2} }
Using (1)
ab =  \sqrt{x {}^{2} + y {}^{2}  } \div 2
