Answer ⤵️

Number of articles bought by the trader = x

It is given that the trader bought the articles for Rs 1200.

So, cost of one article = Rs 1200/x

Ten articles were damaged. So, number of articles left = x - 10

Selling price of each of (x - 10) articles = Rs (1200/x + 2)

Selling price of (x - 10) articles = Rs (x − 10)(1200/x + 2)

profit=Rs.60

(x - 10) \: { (\frac{1200}{x}   + 2)} - 1200 = 60 \\ 1200 + 2x -  \frac{12000}{x}  - 20 - 1200 = 60 \\ 2x -  \frac{12000}{x}  - 20 - 1200 = 60 \\ 2x^{2}  - 80x - 12000 = 0 \\  {x}^{2}  - 40 \times  - 6000 = 0 \\  {x}^{2}  - 100x + 60x - 6000 = 0 \\ x(x - 100) + 60(x - 100) = 0 \\ (x - 100)(x + 60) = 0 \\ x = 100, - 60

Number of articles cannot be negative. So, x = 100.

Hope it helps u ✌️

answer:

no. of the article bought = 100//

step by step

let x be no of articles

Y be the cost of 1 articles

x-y =1200 -----1

10 were damaged, remaining = x-10 articles

selling price = y+2

( x -10 ) (y+2) =1200+60

xy -10y + 2x -20 = 1260

2x - 10y = 1260 - 1200 +20 =80

÷ by 2

x- 5y = 40

x - 40 =5y

y = x - 40

_____

5

1 => xy = 1200 => y = x- 40

_______ = 1200

5

x2 -40 =6000

=> x2 -40 -6000 =0 -6000

/\ -40

( x - 100 ) ( x + 60 ) =0 -100 - 60

x = 100 (a) x = -60

answer : no. of the article bought 100//
