To Find: Value of y

Solution:

Properties of angles formed by transversal line  with two parallel lines :

• Corresponding angles are congruent.  

• Alternate angles are congruent.  ( Interiors & Exterior  both )  

• Co-Interior angles are supplementary. ( adds up to 180°)

AB || CD  and BD is transversal

=> ∠ABD + ∠CDB = 180°   Co-Interior angles are supplementary

=> y + 2y + y + 5y = 180°

=> 9y = 180°

=> y = 20°

∠5 = ∠2  Vertically opposite angles

∠5 = ∠10  Alternate angles

∠5 = ∠13 = ∠7    Corresponding angles

∠5 = ∠4   as ∠4 = ∠7   vertically opposite angles

∠5 = ∠15  as  ∠7 =  ∠15 Corresponding angles

∠5  =  ∠12   as   ∠7 =  ∠12  Alternate angles
