a) Fleming's left hand rule is used to determine the direction of force experienced by a current carrying straight conductor placed in a uniform magnetic field which is perpendicular to it. It states that if the thumb, forefinger and middle finger respectively are kept straight perpendicular to each other then the the thumb points the direction of force, forefinger points the direction of magnetic field (B) middle finger points the direction of current.

b) Split ring acts as a commutator and its function is to reverses the direction of current flowing through the coil.

  1. Hydropower, as water is replenished by water cycle.
  2. Wind power, as wind keeps blowing uneven heating of the earth by the sun.

Q. Name and state the rule which gives the direction of force experienced by a current carrying conductor placed in a magnetic field which is perpendicular to it.

A. Fleming's Left-Hand Rule.

Fleming's Left-Hand Rule.According to this rule- "Stretch the thumb, forefinger and middle finger of your left hand such that they are mutually perpendicular to each other.

Fleming's Left-Hand Rule.According to this rule- "Stretch the thumb, forefinger and middle finger of your left hand such that they are mutually perpendicular to each other. If the finger point in the direction of magnetic field and the middle finger in the direction of current, then the thumb will point in the direction of motion or the force acting on the conductor."
