Question - Calculate the equivalent resistance and the total current flowing in thr circuit given below. It is given that R1 = R2 = R3 = R4 = 2 ohms and Voltage = 6 volts.

Solution -> R1 and R2 are in parallel, so calculate them first.

That would be -

1/Rp = 1/R1 + 1/R2

Provided that R1 = R2 = 4 ohms

Therefore, 1/2 + 1/2 = 1/Rp

=> 2/2 = 1/Rp

1 ohms = Rp

Now, R3,R4 and Rp all are in series, so add them up

R3 + R4 + Rp = Req.

2 + 2 + 1 = Req.

5 ohms = Req.

So, Equivalent Resistance is 5 ohms.

Now, Total Current = Total Voltage ÷ Total Resistance

I = V/R

I = 6/5

I = 1.2A
