The centre of gravity of the ruler is at 50 cm

Mass of the stick is 250 g

Let the distance from pivot be d

Work =  force * displacement

= 250 g * d

Now this force acts anticlockwise.

Now the work done by 100 g force is;

= 100 g * 20 cm

= 2000 g cm clockwise

Sum of clockwise moments = Sum of anticlockwise moments

==> 250 d = 2000 cm

==> d = 2000 cm / 250

==> d =8 cm

The answer is Option C

Hope it helps

Anonymous: centre of gravity is always at the centre of the scale
Anonymous: centre of 100 cm scale is at 50 cm so cg at 50 cm
