Step-by-step explanation:

Sum of parallel sides = 16cm

Let height be h cm

Area of trapezium = 16 sq cm

1/2 × sum of parallel sides × height = 16

1/2 × 16 × h = 16

h = 2cm

distance between parallel sides = h= 2cm

when both sides are halved and area is same Then

if both sides are halved the their sum will also become half

sum of parallel sides = 1/2 × 16 = 8cm

new height = H cm

now again

1/2 × sum of parallel sides × height = area

1/2 × 8 × H = 16

H = 4cm

New distance between parallel sides = H= 4cm
