then substitute the values we will get

R3=8+8=16

R3=16ohms

 \frac{1}{2}  =  \frac{1}{8}  +  \frac{1}{8}  +  \frac{1}{r3}

 \frac{1}{2}  =  \frac{1}{4}  +  \frac{1}{r3}  \\  \frac{1}{2}  -  \frac{1}{4}  = \frac{1}{r3}   \\  \frac{2}{8}  = \frac{1}{r3}   \\ r3 = 4 \: ohm
