3 1/4 = 13/4

therefore,

a x (b x c) = (a x b) x c

13/4 x (-2/13 x 1/2) = (13/4 x -2/13) x 1/2

13/4 x (-1/13) = (-2/4) x 1/2

-1/4 = -1/4
