Answer:

3 1/4 = 13/4

therefore,

            a x (b x c) = (a x b) x c

13/4 x (-2/13 x 1/2) = (13/4 x -2/13) x 1/2

         13/4 x (-1/13) = (-2/4) x 1/2

                       -1/4 = -1/4

We have,

a = 3 \frac{1}{4}  =  \frac{(4 \times 3) + 1}{4}  =  \frac{13}{4}

b =  -  \frac{2}{13}

c =  \frac{1}{2}

Now,

LHS

 = a \times (b \times c)

 =  \frac{13}{4}  \times ( \frac{ - 2}{13}  \times  \frac{1}{2} )

 =  \frac{13}{4}  \times ( \frac{( - 2)(1)}{(13)(2)} )

 =  \frac{13}{4}  \times  -  \frac{1}{13}

 =  -  \frac{1}{4}

And,

RHS

 = (a \times b) \times c

 = ( \frac{13}{4}  \times  -  \frac{2}{13} ) \times  \frac{1}{2}

 = ( \frac{(13)( - 2)}{(4)(13)} ) \times  \frac{1}{2}

 =  -  \frac{1}{2}  \times  \frac{1}{2}

 =  \frac{( - 1)(1)}{(2)(2)}

 =  -  \frac{1}{4}

Therefore, LHS = RHS .
