QUESTION: The sum of two numbers is 99. If one number is 20% more than the other, find the two numbers.

SOLUTION: Two numbers are 54 and 45

GIVEN:

  • sum of two number is 99.
  • one number is 20% more that other.

EXPLANATION:

  • Let first number be x
  • second number will 99 - x

Now, According to the question,

=> x = 99 - x + 20/100(99 - x)

=> x = 99 - x + 19.8 + 0.2x

=> 2.2x = 118.8

=> x = 118.8/2.2 = 54

Other number will be 99 - x = 99 - 54 = 45

Hence, the two numbers are 54 and 45
