I could give you a hint to your question. Try to assign potential drops along the resistance and you will see that : 6 ohm and 6 ohm are in series , 3 ohm and 3 ohm are in series . And these two groups are in parallel.
Regarding the 2nd part , you can simply shift the position of the battery wire to a more peripheral position. Then you will clearly understand where to position the ammeter.
