Answer:

Perimeter = 62cm

Step by step explanation:

Let in the rectangle ABCD,

AB = x,

BC = x - 17

AC = 25 cm

By using Pythagoras theorem in ∆ABC,

AC² = AB² + BC²

=> (25)² = x² + (x - 17)²

=> 625 = 2x² - 34x + 289

=> 2x² - 34x + 289 - 625 = 0

=> 2x² - 34x - 336 = 0

=> x² - 17x - 168 = 0

=> x² - 24x + 7x - 168 = 0

=> x(x - 24) + 7(x - 24) = 0

=> (x - 24)(x + 7) = 0

=> x = 24 or x = -7 [rejected]

.°. length (l) = 24cm

and breadth (b) = 24 - 17 = 7 cm

Hence, the perimeter of the rectangle ABCD

= 2(l + b)

= 2 (24 + 7)

= 2 × 31

= 62cm
