Let the numerator be x and the denominator be x + 3,

According to the question,

 \frac{3x}{(x + 3) + 20}   =  \frac{1}{8}  \\  \\  \frac{3x}{x + 23}  =  \frac{1}{8}  \\  \\  8 \times 3x = x + 23 \\  \\ 24x - x = 23 \\  \\ 23x = 23 \\  \\ x = 1

So, as x = 1, That's why,

Numerator = 1

Denominator = x + 3

= 1 + 3

= 4

so \:  \: the \:  \: required \:  \: number \:  \: is \\  \frac{1}{4}

Hope it helps
