  1. Parasites are organisms that depend upon another organism (host) for food and cause harmful effects or dieseases to the host. Examples: Cuscuta (Amarbel), mosquitoes and head lice. saprotrophs are orgnisms that obtain nutrition from dead and decaying organic matter.
  2. Photosynthesis is a chemical reaction that takes place inside a plant, producing food for the plant to survive. Carbon dioxide, water and light are all needed for photosynthesis to take place. Photosynthesis happens in the leaves of a plant.

Answer 2 : Parasites are organisms that depend upon another organism (host) for food and cause harmful effects or diseases to host whereas saprotrophs are orgnisms that obtain nutrition from dead and decaying organic matter.

Answer 3 : Food in plants is synthesized in leaves hence they are often termed as food factories of the plant. Food production in leaves is as follows:

1) Minerals and water in the soil is absorbed by roots and transported to leaves.
2) Atmospheric carbon dioxide enters the plants through stomata(small openings on the leaf surface).
3) Leaves contain the pigment chlorophyll which helps the plant to capture solar energy which is used to synthesize food from water and carbon dioxide. This process of synthesis of food in the presence of sunlight is known as photosynthesis.

Answer 4: Bile is a fluid that is made and released by the liver and stored in the gallbladder. Bile helps with digestion. It breaks down fats into fatty acids, which can be taken into the body by the digestive tract.

Answer 5: Villi are small finger-like projections located in the walls of the small intestine. Their function is to increase the surface area in order to maximise the absorption of digested food.

Answer 6: (a) Rearing - The process of keeping, feeding, breeding and medical care of useful animals is called rearing of animals. These animals produce one or more useful products for human beings.

(b) Shearing - The process of removing the fleece of the sheep along with a thin layer
of skin is called shearing.

(c) Sericulture - The rearing of silkworms for obtaining silk is called sericulture.

Answer 7: Silk reeling is the process by which a number of cocoon baves are reeled together to produce a single thread.
